A Kia Ceed hybrid will be launched later this year, as the Korean carmaker adds a plug-in hybrid (PHEV) option to the Kia Ceed Sportswagon estate range.
There’s also set to be a PHEV version of the forthcoming Kia XCeed, a Ceed-based SUV arriving before the end of 2019.
He said: “We’re looking at getting electrification into the Ceed family. In November, we’ll start production, in Europe, of the plug-in hybrid Ceed Sportswagon, and we’ll also have a plug-in hybrid of the crossover we’ll show at Frankfurt in September.”
The same 139bhp, front-wheel-drive 1.6-litre petrol plug-in hybrid drivetrain as found in the Kia Niro PHEV is likely to power the new cars. This should give them an electric driving range in the region of 35 miles and CO2 emissions of about 30g/km.
The new plug-in hybrids will join the Niro PHEV and Hybrid, as well as the Kia Optima Sportswagon PHEV and the fully electric Kia e-Niro and Kia Soul EV in the brand’s electrified range. Kia also showed a four-door electric concept at the Geneva show, called the ‘Imagine by Kia‘.
